Scaling Circular Economies. Protecting the World’s Climate-Critical Forests

This November, Canopy will join global leaders at COP30 in Belém, Brazil — on the edge of the Amazon — to advance one clear goal: protect the world’s Ancient and Endangered Forests and accelerate the shift to a nature-positive, circular economy that keeps forests standing.

COP30 is a pivotal moment for global climate action. It brings together governments, businesses, investors, Indigenous leaders, and civil society to assess progress and deliver solutions that ensure we not only survive, but thrive on this planet together.

For Canopy, participation in COP30 is a continuation of our mission to protect the world’s vital forests, species, and climate, and to align the global economy with the planet’s ecological limits. Over five billion trees are logged every year to make paper, packaging, and MMCF textiles like viscose and rayon, with many coming from climate and biodiversity critical Ancient and Endangered Forests. As a systems-change organization, Canopy works to shift supply chains and market incentives that drive deforestation and degradation — transforming how materials are produced, financed, and recycled. We will contribute our expertise in transforming supply chains, scaling Next Gen Solutions, and mobilizing investment in circular, nature-positive systems that keep forests standing, from the Leuser Ecosystem in Indonesia to the Boreal in Canada.

Canopy’s delegation will engage with policymakers, investors, Indigenous and community leaders, and corporate partners to accelerate action on three fronts: protect Ancient and Endangered Forests, advance circular material innovation, and driving the large-scale investment needed to bring these solutions to life.

Our presence in Belém reflects a pivotal moment: protecting the planet’s most climate-critical forests while shaping an economy that recognizes the intrinsic value of nature.
